How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner perfectly – Step by step

When you look at someone, the first thing you notice is his or her eyes. That’s the reason we put so much effort into making our eyes look perfect – concealer, eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara! But why is it that when it comes to eyeliner, our experimentation ends with the wing? We often forget that the possibilities of this one product are endless! With color, design and how much or how little you use, you can change your entire look. Here are some adventurous leaps you can take with this simple, yet extremely important, piece of makeup:

1. First: Know that there are three basic types of liners.

Pencil eyeliner is easy to apply, but sometimes doesn’t spread as smoothly or thickly as gel or liquid liners.

Gel liners are matte and glide on easily. They sometimes come in a little pot with a brush.

Liquid liners are used for their precision, and usually come in tubes with a small brush, or “pen-style” with brush tips. They can take some time to dry after applying, though.

How to pick the type of liner to use

The ABC of makeup is that you always decide on basis of where you are going. You don’t do dramatic eyes at your place and certainly don’t go neutral when you want spend the night at club partying! Picking the right type of liner is key in getting the looks right.

Pencil liners:

These are the easiest to use! Whip them out, drag the tip along and you’re done. You don’t have to worry about and smudging etc etc. But pencil liners are not long stay and are matte. So this is an ideal day choice but if you want drama, this will give disappointing results.

Liquid Liners:

These liners are all about the drama. They are shiny and go perfectly with that dramatic and bold look. If it is party you are off to, then is the right choice. But beware you need to be very careful with application for these are the hardest kind of liners ever made to use.

Gel liners:

This was made make peoples life easier! It has the long stay capacity. It adds a good deal of drama and it is easy to apply. Depending on how you use it, it is perfect for the day and the might. Raccoon can certainly be forgotten with this product

How to Apply Eyeliner Step by Step

Before I start with the tutorial, I would like to tell you that the basic trick applied here is to create a thin line at the inner corners and thicker at the outer corners. This makes the eyes look bigger than they actually are. Now, let’s begin with the tutorial

Step 1

Start with moisturized eyes and well-groomed eyebrows. You may use a concealer and/or compact to hide your dark circles. I haven’t used any in these pictures, thanks to the early sleeping habit that I am keeping up to since the past few day

Step 2

Apply an eye primer. This is an optional step. I prefer applying this because I have oily lids and this increases the longevity of the eye liner/eye shadow and prevents early creasing

Step 3

Blend in the primer nicely. This particular eye primer from Makeup Academy looks almost transparent after blending in.

Step 4

Take the eyeliner and create a rough line of the thickness you want. I have used the Maybelline Gel eye liner and created an arc-shaped line with the thin eyeliner brush

Step 5

Take the same thin tip eyeliner brush to fill the space you have created. I am not taking a thick brush because I want the line to be very precise and thin at the inner corners

Step 6

Now, in the above step, you can see that the outer corner is not so thick as compared to the inner corner. In fact, it is more of an arc-shaped line that we have formed. So, I took a thick eye liner brush and increased the thickness of the eyeliner in the outer corner.

The thin brush used here is the Basic are lip liner brush; I use it for applying eye liner to small eyes. The thicker brush I have used here is from Faces

Step 7

Keeping the same brush, apply the eyeliner inwards on the lower lash line, starting from where the liner ends on the outer end of the upper lash line to form a ‘V’ kind of shape.

You do not have to extend the liner on the upper lash line since we don’t want to have a dramatic eye look; just give a stroke on the lower side forming a ‘V’ pattern.

Step 8

Follow the same eyeliner line, keeping in mind that you do not have to thicken it at the inner corner of the eye. If you notice, I have kept the tear duct area almost bare. I have not extended it on the lower lash line because it looks very dramatic on me in that case. I have used pencil eyeliner instead of the gel one for this step as I am more comfortable with that. I have used the Lakme Absolute Ultimate Kajal eyeliner

Nothing more; just curl your eye lashes and apply mascara. I have used the Basicare Eye lash Curler and L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara

How to pick the right color of eye liner for you?

This is a choice that has to be entirely made on your eye color. You don’t want to end up using a color that brings out your eyes in the wrong way! So step one would be to figure out your right eye color shade. Once you have got that fixed, here are the colors you can try.

Brown:

Sorry ladies, but if you have been blessed with brown eyes then there isn’t much of a choice you have. Black will always look lovely on you and gray also looks quite decent. But steer clear of the brown shades, unless you have extremely dark brown eyes and are using a light to medium colored shade. Very much contrary to the notion that brown would bring out your eyes, it doesn’t! It looks terrible and leaves you looking sick.

Green:

Got the color of the cat haven’t you. You options are limited but work them right and you will look like a queen. Here we differentiate into light and dark green eye shades. If you have light green eyes, then black is your color! It brings on the color of your pupils and your eyes look much brighter. The same however does not apply if you have dark green eyes. Black will not work for you. Your best bet would be a more earthy shade of brown but if you’re not a fan of brown then try the gray

Blue:

Your choices have again been limited by your genetics. Blue eyes are lovely but again require careful picking. If you have light blue eyes, then black is perfect for you for the very same reason that it brightens the color of your pupils. But if you have darker blue eyes then black is not your color, for you want your eyes to look a slightly lighter shade. In that case, bring out the gray liners. They highlight the gray tones of your eyes which looks simple lovely.

Hazel:

Now this effectively means you have a mix of green and brown tones. The choice now depends on whether you want your eyes look more green or brown. If your leaning on green then go with a green liner and if your leaning on brown, then brown it is for you! Black of course will always look lovely on you

Black:

If you have black eyes then you have hit the jack pot! Go give your parents a kiss each and tell them you love them! Cause you know what…you just got a free pass to play with any color you please. Depending on the occasion they all fit just fine
